“CBA Means to Me…”

“CBA Means to Me…”

Christian Brothers Academy, the elite college prep school in New Jersey, means a lot of different things to me. CBA is the school where I’ve had some of the best memories of my life, while also making the worst. CBA is the school where I’ve met some of my lifelong friends who I will never stop talking to after graduation. CBA is the school where one has never had to think how others thought about them. CBA is the school all people of my age would want to attend.

The story of my career at Christian Brothers Academy began the first day of Freshman Year.

Heading into Freshman Year I already acquired multiple friends throughout the Summer. I met most of these kids either at the beach or through other events during that summer before the start of the school year only to find out most of them would be attending the Academy the upcoming Fall.

The first day of school ever at Christian Brothers Academy was quite the one to remember. My first ever lunch period, I received a barrell from Mr. Midler for holding a water bottle “inappropriately”. That definitely a snot the way to begin my career ta the Academy and I’ve always for some reason held a grudge at the whole school because of that.

Later on during Freshman year, I began to establish a so called ‘friend group. This friend group consisted of kids from Little Silver, Colts neck, Lincroft, Monmouth Beach, and Rumson. All of these kids were students at the Academy.

Since then I have been able to maintain most of those friends yet not all. Some friends have transferred to other schools while others did not stay at the school. I have also become friends with more students from the Howell Freehold area.

As Freshmen Year ended, I spent most of my time during the Summer in Sea Bright and Manasquan beaches.

Freshman Year was more of a year of a new trial or sample test. I, like everyone else, had no idea what to expect. We were basically thrown into a pile of wolves and told “hey pass all your classes”.

Year Two, Sophomore Year…

After a wonderful Summer, I returned for year two. Sophomore year was quite similar to Freshman Year as I maintained my main friend group. Sadly not all of my friends returned from Freshman Year as two transferred. One transferred to RBR and the other to RBC.

Highlights of my Sophomore Year included more clubs that I joined and friends I befriended. Sophomore Year was a solid year for my grades however as my grades did slightly increase.

After Sophomore Year it was time for Summer. That Summer I had a blast as I went on multiple mission trips and participated in many fun events.

Sophomore  Year was a more relaxed and easy going year compared to Freshman Year. everyone and everything was more laid back and everyone began to meet each other more. It was a fun time and I became closer friends with my pals from Freshman Year.

After a fantastic Summer, I returned to the Academy to begin my third year… Junior Year.

Heading into Junior Year, I heard many things about how challenging Junior Year is to students. It’s a very stressful school year and brings to the table a lot of work load. I was very nervous and somewhat not prepared for it.

As am I inches away from completing my Junior Year, I can say it was by far the hardest and probably worst year school wise. I’ve never had so many tests and quizzes as well as other projects in a single school year as I have for Junior Year.

Take away schoolwork, Junior Year was by far the best year I had. I made many more friends and met more people from events outside of school. I also began working and have had much success at my current job, the Dublin House in Red Bank, NJ.

In conclusion, Christian Brothers Academy means a lot of different things to me. It means different things to everyone. Christian brothers Academy is a school where you have to make the most of it. You have to do what you want. You have to take control. If you do what you want and make the most of it at the Academy then your experience is going to be twice as fun as someone who doesn't do anything besides leave the school at 2:30 heads home and does there homework and sleep. If you are active in clubs, like being social, and or do sports, you are destined to have a great time at Christian Brothers Academy. Make the most of it.

John Askin Feature Article

John Askin is one of the hottest names in New Jersey High School Soccer. I had the chance to speak with him about his rookie Varsity season as well as colleges he's looking at, and more!

John Askin, a junior at Christian Brothers Academy, has the dream of making it BIG in the world of Soccer one day. He aspired to one day play in the most prestigious league in the United States of America, Major League Soccer (MLS).

Askin who grew up and still resides in Howell, NJ has said since the age of five he has had the dream of playing professional soccer. "Yeah since about four or give I probably knew I wanted to make money playing soccer one day. It would just be amazing".

Askin finally began to expose his name to College scouts this 2016 High School Soccer season as a he made the CBA Varsity soccer team and earned a spot on the starting roster a defender. In his first yer as a starter and a varsity player, he shined! Askin made the most of his spotlight as he was repeatedly a contestant for defender of the week and even defender of the year.

Eventually Askin helped lead the team to a State championship. In the state championship game, (his first ever), Askin played amazing as he shut down every single player tta came his way. In his first ever State Championship Game, he played amazing, and even winded up kissing the trophy.

Askin claimed winning the State Championship was one of the best soccer moments and even moments in his life. "Oh by far one of my favorite moments so far in my soccer career. It was simply amazing. Everyone played so hard the entire year and never gave up. We deserved it. Everyone on this team deserved this."

After winning a state championship for one of the top high school soccer teams in the country, Askin is attracting some interests from college scouts as he is a fast, sneaky, defender with greta foot skills.

I wish John the best of luck in the future as well as the Christian Brothers Academy Colts as they look to gain another state championship trophy in the near future.

Brotherhood (Writing)

What is Brotherhood? Brotherhood can have many different types of shapes and forms. One definition that everyone would agree on is that brotherhood is a tight, close relationship with a small group of people who all depend on one another.

Brotherhood is important in all aspects of life. It’s used in people's daily life. It’s used between two friends or sometimes thousands of people.

As I’ve attended Christian Brothers for about 3 years I’ve witnessed brotherhood almost, if not every single day. Brotherhood in the hallways of CBA can be one picking up a pencil for another or giving one an extra dollar if someone is short, even if they don’t know them.

This past week I had the chance to talk to a few classmates and teachers about brotherhood. I interviewed several people and each and everyone of them seemed to have different types of answers but all under the same type of category. That category being Comradery.

Whether one is at school or outside of school brotherhood is always involved with one another in the Colt community. Brotherhood does not just occur inside of school, but also outside of the classroom.

If one was to walk into the gymnasium during a CBA basketball game and see the mob of fans, one obviously would infer that their is some type of special commandery between the classmates. All students are there for one another during the good times, and yet also the tough times. Students will always try to make one of their classmates happy when one is down. That is the great thing about attending Christian brothers Academy, the comradery between classmates.

To add on, I’ve had a great experience at the Academy for three years. I’ve made some close friendships, and some of those close friends I’d consider myself brothers with them. If they were ever in a  time of need I would do anything for them. I would risk myself for them as I would know they’d do the same for me. That’s what brotherhood to me is about. Caring so much about each other you’d do anything to make sure their safe and happy.

Although CBA contains much brotherhood, brotherhood extends way outside of my high school. Brotherhood is portrayed within battle, family tragedies, and even sports.
